West Bengal joins Ayushman Bharat scheme
“The portability feature of PM-JAY would be particularly beneficial for migrant workers from West Bengal and their families. Beneficiaries working or residing in other States would be able to access cashless treatment at nearby empanelled hospitals across the countr,’’ said Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda
West Bengal has become part of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, a major health insurance initiative. The state's participation is expected to provide significant advantages for migrant workers and their dependents who relocate to other regions. According to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, the scheme's portability feature allows beneficiaries to receive free medical treatment at participating hospitals nationwide, regardless of their current location. This expansion means that workers from West Bengal living or employed elsewhere can access cashless healthcare services without geographical restrictions.
The move extends affordable healthcare coverage to millions of migrant workers and their families, addressing a critical gap in medical access for India's mobile workforce.
