A new initiative called Echo will provide comprehensive support to child sexual abuse survivors in England and Wales, with a focus on removing exploitative images from the internet. The program offers affected individuals assistance in locating and deleting abuse material online, alongside trauma counseling and legal support options. Survivors who have reported their cases to authorities will also have access to victim impact statements that can be presented during court proceedings against offenders, as well as pathways to pursue criminal or civil compensation claims.
This program addresses a critical gap in survivor support by tackling the ongoing harm caused by the persistence of abuse material online, which can perpetuate trauma long after initial victimization.
