Why the Dalit movement needs to talk about humiliation
The Dalit movement must move beyond traditional narratives and adopt new ones, mainly humiliation, in accordance with the changing realities.
Advocates argue that the Dalit movement should expand its framework to address psychological and social dimensions of discrimination that extend beyond conventional approaches. The concept of humiliation—encompassing the emotional and dignity-based impacts of systemic oppression—represents an underexplored dimension that could better capture the lived experiences of marginalized communities. By incorporating this perspective, the movement could develop more comprehensive strategies that acknowledge both material inequalities and the intangible harms inflicted through social degradation and disrespect.
Reframing the Dalit movement around humiliation could strengthen advocacy efforts by addressing previously overlooked aspects of discrimination and creating more resonant narratives for contemporary struggles.
