Following the passing of Hong Kong hairstylist Pitt Cheung in April, the remaining balance from his medical crowdfunding campaign will be donated to a local cancer charity. The 44-year-old had been battling nasopharyngeal cancer and sought alternative treatment options after exhausting standard care at public hospitals. His supporters successfully raised over HK$555,000 to cover the high costs of specialized chemotherapy drugs. After accounting for all medical expenses, including hospitalizations and follow-up care, approximately HK$140,620 remained. In accordance with Cheung’s final wishes, these funds will be given to the Cancer Information organization. Organizers noted that the NGO provided significant emotional and professional support to Cheung throughout his illness, and they hope the donation will assist other patients in similar circumstances.
This story highlights how community-driven financial support can provide critical resources for patients seeking specialized care while also fostering a cycle of philanthropy for future cancer patients.
